Karpaty Lviv Keen On Loan Reunion With This Celtic Outcast: Should Lennon Ship Him Out?

Nikhil Vinodh
Nikhil has been an avid Chelsea fan for as long as the concept of time has existed and rumours say that he even bleeds blue. Having lived in the UK for 3 years, Nikhil is said to have an excellent understanding of the atmosphere surrounding the English game. His role model is the greatest manager of all time - Jose Mourinho.

According to a recent report by the Scottish Sun, Ukrainian side Karpaty Lviv are said to be lining up a summer loan move to reacquire the services of former winger sensation Maryan Shved from Celtic. The report suggests that the attacker is set to return to first-team training with Celtic later this week, but that his former employers are waiting eagerly to see if Neil Lennon will permit a loan move back to his native country. The report also states that Oleksandriya are also keen on acquiring Shved, but that the player has committed only to joining his boyhood club.

It has been claimed that the forward will be given an opportunity to get the Celtic staff to change their mind about his talents this week, but that Karpaty would sign him up on loan in a moment’s notice if the opportunity does open up later this summer. The Ukrainian side are reportedly in quarantine at this point, as 25 members of the staff tested positive for the Coronavirus. With the fact that Karpaty Lviv are keen on Celtic’s Maryan Shved now clarified, it will be interesting to see what Neil Lennon decides to do with the speedster next season.

What Is Maryan Shved’s Legacy At Parkhead?

The Ukrainian forward was brought in from Lviv for a fairly hefty price back in the winter of last season, and then immediately shipped back out on loan to his former club. It’s safe to say that he’s yet to really make a name for himself in Neil Lennon’s side, although a lot was expected of the trickster prior to the season.

The fans saw the youngster as a generational talent who could come in and quickly become a mainstay in the first-team, but things haven’t gone quite to plan for the winger.

A right-winger by position, the Ukrainian international struggled to manage the gritty and physical nature of Premiership football, and it was obvious to see that he was used to a very different style-of-play back in his home country. Although the speedster does have more than enough reason to stay optimistic, it’s worth conceding that he needs to step up his game. The 22-year-old scored once and featured just three times for Celtic over the entirety of the campaign, with each of the appearances coming in a different tournament.

What Can Maryan Shved Add To This Celtic Team?

The Ukrainian’s best attribute is undoubtedly his ability to dribble past any defender using trickery and sheer technical skill. The winger offers the Celts a different kind of wide option to the ones that they currently have, although he’s yet to really show himself in the best light so far. The wide-man is adept at getting out of tight and crowded situations with sharp turns and feints, while he also boasts an absolute belter of a left foot. The attacker tends to be a good finisher in the final third too, as can be seen from some of the goals he has scored for his former club.

Karpaty Lviv Are Keen On Celtic’s Maryan Shved: Should Lennon Send Him On Loan?

The trickster arrived at Parkhead with a large chunk of expectations already weighing him down, and it can be said with confidence that he hasn’t lived up to the hype. With that said though, it’s worth considering that the Bhoys are going into what could be a memorable season in the history of their football club. Steven Gerrard is sure to try every trick in the book to deny the champions a tenth straight league title, and with the departure of a player like Jonny Hayes thrown in as well, it would be unwise on Lennon’s part to let Shved go back to his former club on loan next season.
