Celtic Linked Midfielder’s £2.2m Bid Rejected By West Brom: Why Lennon Should Look To Sign Him?

Celtic have been continually linked with a move for Romaine Sawyers and reports from Sky Sports mentions that they are still in the race to sign him. However, it’s West Bromwich Albion that have taken on an active approach to sign the Brentford midfielder as they recently put in a £2.2m bid for the 27-year-old. However, the good news for Celtic is that the Bees have rejected that offer and the player is still up for grabs.

It is being said that Celtic had put in a bid of £2m earlier this months which was also rejected. Reports mention that Brentford value Sawyers at £3m with Celtic still remaining keen. Brentford wants to keep hold of Sawyers in this window, but we think that they are likely to face a tough time as the Saint Kitts and Nevis international is already in the final year of his contract.

Why Celtic need a midfielder?

The Hoops have been after a midfielder in this window as they came very close to signing David Turnbull from Motherwell. Therefore that showcases that the club is indeed in the market for a midfielder.

Olivier Ntcham is currently being linked with a move away from the club. So the club will need a dynamic midfielder to replace him. We think that Sawyers has the ability and experience to thrive in the Premiership.

What will Sawyers bring to the table?

Sawyers is an attack-minded midfielder with impressive on the ball qualities. He can pick out his team-mates with precision, and he also has a killer final ball in his locker which can open up defences. The 27-year-old showcases effective close-quarter control, and he is a dangerous player on the ball in the attacking third.

He might have to improve a bit on his finishing in and around the box. The Brentford captain’s work-rate can also be questionable sometimes, but he is a productive player as a midfielder.

What should Lennon do?

£3m in today’s market is a very reasonable price, and we think that Lennon should come up with the money to sign the midfielder. West Brom will be a step up from Brentford as they are genuine contenders to move to the Premier League. However, Celtic can offer Sawyers a chance to play in the Champions League (if they make it through the qualifiers) which the midfielder is yet to experience in his career.
