According to a recent report by the Express, Manchester United have been offered a chance to secure the services of Olympique Marseille midfielder Kevin Strootman on loan during the summer transfer period. The same source has also claimed that the Ligue 1 outfit are struggling at the moment and are looking to part ways with some of their prized assets which include Strootman.
Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol recently made a post on Twitter which said (via the Express), “Everton and Manchester United offered chance to sign Marseille/Holland midfielder Kevin Strootman on loan.
“Marseille signed him from Roma for £23m last summer. Marseille need to cut costs after a disappointing season.”
Strootman’s Struggles In The Ligue 1 This Season
Strootman has endured a difficult campaign since his move to Marseille last summer. The Dutch midfielder has featured in 27 Ligue 1 matches for the French outfit this term, scoring just one goal while creating five assists in multiple competitions.
The Ridderkerk born playmaker has also earned 43 international caps for the Dutch national team and has registered three goals for them thus far. At 29, Stootman still has a few years left in his locker to play at a high level.
What Does The Dutch Midfielder Offer On The Pitch?
Strootman is a decent dribbler with the ball from midfield but what makes him so unique is his ability to unlock the most rigid of defences in the opposition half. He can distribute the ball accurately and also protects the backline well. The Dutch midfielder boasts incredible strength and can read the game well which enables him to make timely interceptions for his team.
However, Strootman has been plagued with injuries in recent years, especially after he sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury back in 2014. He has struggled with fitness issues as well, which has derailed his career in European football.
Should Solskjaer Sign Strootman On Loan This Summer?
The Red Devils would be better of opting for more reliable options in the transfer market as Strootman looks like a shadow of his former self these days. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to make some quality acquisitions this summer, but the Dutch talent doesn’t fit the bill at Old Trafford. The Mancunian outfit should instead go for players who are currently playing at their best and give up on injury-prone talents.
