Liverpool dropped points against Arsenal and slipped to the third spot in the Premier League table, and they were surprisingly beaten by Red Star Belgrade midweek in the Champions League tie, therefore, piling more pressure on the misfiring frontline of the Reds. However, they take on Fulham next who currently sit at the bottom of the table and have the worst defensive record in the league having shipped in 29 goals in 11 games.
So maybe Liverpool would be glad that they are up against a side who are defensively all over the place and the Reds front three can gain some confidence by getting back to scoring ways against the Cottagers. Jurgen Klopp would be looking for a big reaction from his players after a poor outing and it remains to be seen whether Fulham would pile more pressure on the Reds or Klopp’s men would get back to winning ways again.
Naby Keita was good enough to make the bench in the last game but didn’t play a single minute midweek. He could be in contention to start this week. Jordan Henderson is the one who might miss out once again. Alex Oxlade Chamberlain continues to be a long-term absentee. Dejan Lovren is once again a doubt for the weekend’s game.
Liverpool Predicted Lineup vs Fulham
Alisson Becker continues to be no.1 in goal for the Merseyside club, and he should once again start in between the sticks. Klopp is likely to go back to his best centre-back pairing of Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk at the back. Trent Alexander Arnold has cut a sorry figure for the most parts this season, and Klopp chucked him out at halftime against Red Star in Serbia. However, against a side like Fulham, we expect the manager to trust his fullback to give him the much-needed confidence after a poor outing. Andy Robertson has quite easily been the most consistent performer, and he should start as a left-back once again.
The midfield of Liverpool have come under a lot of flak of late for their inability to create and carve open defences. That’s why we feel Xherdan Shqiri should be given a go from the start in this game in the midfield three. Fabinho should play the role of the holding midfielder. James Milner should be the other man to do the workhorse role in the middle of the park.
Klopp should be worried about seeing his front three clueless on occasions in the final third, and he would hope that they can find their touch soon as we enter into the crucial phase of the season. Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino should start together and should be looking to score goals galore against Fulham’s leaky defence.
