Celtic are hoping to secure the services of Sheffield Wednesday goalie Keiren Westwood this summer. According to recent reports, the Hoops are planning to seal a move for the Owls keeper during this summer transfer period. It is believed that the Bhoys boss Brendan Rodgers is looking to strengthen his squad before the transfer window slams shut next month and Westwood fits the bill perfectly.

Some sources have recently claimed that Celtic are among a whole host of clubs keeping tabs on the Republic of Ireland international’s situation at the Hillsborough Stadium.

Westwood has a wealth of experience in English football having made 270 appearances in the English Championship while keeping 82 clean sheets during his career so far. If given the opportunity to ply his trade at Celtic Park, he can rise to the occasion and put in some match-winning displays at the highest level.

He is exactly the kind of talent who can flourish in the Scottish first division if Rodgers is successful in luring him to Parkhead in the coming weeks. However, at 33, the Owls talent won’t be a long-term solution to take up the goalkeeping duties for Celtic and will only be a temporary fix at that position.

The Glaswegian heavyweights managed to claim another domestic treble last season and have also begun this campaign on a positive note after winning three matches in a row in Europe. Rodgers still needs to add a few pieces to his Celtic jigsaw before the domestic season gets underway if his team are to continue their domination in the top tier of Scottish football next term.

The addition of Westwood will definitely improve Rodgers’ goalkeeping options ahead of the new season. The Hoops have some promising keepers in their squad such as Craig Gordon, Dorus de Vries, Scott Bain and Conor Hazard who are all competing for a place in goal at Parkhead.

The potential acquisition of Westwood will undoubtedly bolster their team significantly and add more competition for places within the Hoops squad. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of the Republic of Ireland shot-stopper and whether he ends up making a switch to Celtic Park before the start of the new season.
