Celtic winger Patrick Roberts has revealed that he wants to go back to the Premier League this summer. According to recent reports, the Manchester City midfielder, who is currently on loan at Celtic, is eager to experience Premier League football when his loan stay at the Glaswegian club comes to an end in the summer. The 21-year-old midfield has spent two-and-a-half years on loan at Celtic Park and is set to report back to Manchester City at the end of the current season.

Some sources are now claiming that the English youngster wants to play in the top tier of English football with Leicester City looking to recruit him in the upcoming transfer window. In a recent interview, Roberts addressed his future and was quoted to have said, “I’ve enjoyed my football (with Celtic) and everyone knows that,”

“But you also have to look at the bigger picture and I have certain ambitions in my head and places that I want to be.

“To get there I need to come out of my comfort zone and try to reach those targets, but playing for Celtic has been a dream come true and I’ve enjoyed every minute.

“(Playing in the Premier League) is the main aim. Being an English player and having come through the system in the Premier League, (the ambition) is to play for a top club in the Premier League.

“I’m at one now with Manchester City and they’re doing well but you’ve got to look at yourself, and what’s best for you, and try to pick the best option possible.

“When the time comes we’ll see. I’ll enjoy the summer and the rest of this season and when it comes to July, kick on from there.”

Roberts has made 18 appearances for Brendan Rodgers’ side this season, scoring one goal while creating five assists across all competitions. The Bhoys wide man has been plagued with injuries during the course of this campaign which has faltered his development. However, the 21-year-old winger completed his return from injury and was handed a place on the bench for Celtic’s crucial semi-final clash versus Rangers in the Scottish Cup last month. Roberts came off the bench to feature in the final quarter of that encounter.

The Hoops have already won the league title this season but their performance in the UEFA Champions League left a lot to be desired. The departure of Roberts could leave their squad significantly depleted ahead of the new campaign. The Celtic winger is extremely versatile and can operate in a number of different positions across the midfield. He primarily plays in the right-hand side of the midfield but can also feature on the left flank or as a central defender which makes him a perfect fit for the Hoops.

However, with Roberts determined to make a return to the English top-flight, it remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of the English midfielder and whether Celtic can cope with his absence from their team next season.
