Watford started their season in mixed fashion, having won three of their first seven matches while drawing three more and losing the one solitary game. Their only defeat was a thumping one that came against the present league leaders Manchester City 6-0 and the Hornets will definitely try and avoid another such result from occurring in the future.
Though they have a very good backline and an efficient goalkeeper in the form of Heurelho Gomes playing for them, it is imperative for them to find a replacement for the veteran Brazilian who will be equally agile and dependable under the crossbars. The Hornets are looking forward to bring in someone viable enough to be a replacement for the 36-year-old and they have their eyes on the Spanish youngster Pau Lopez.
The 22-year-old is not an unfamiliar face in the Premier League and played the last season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur. Though he did not get a chance to feature in any of the top flight matches, his abilities to keep his cool in the most adverse of situations and his ball handling abilities made a number of heads turn including that of the Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino, who might look to make a bid for the young custodian and bring him to the side on a permanent basis.
However, his current club Espanyol might not look to let go of their prized possession, with a number of clubs other than Spurs looking to bag him in the next transfer window. The Hornets are one of the top clubs who are looking to secure the signature and might have to face strong competition from the Premier League debutants Brighton and Hove Albion as well.
Known for his ability to face the toughest of oppositions fearlessly and marshal the side well from between the crossbars, the Spaniard is considered to be one of the brightest young talents in European football. Watford are well aware of the fact and will be quite happy to leave the responsibility of keeping clean sheets in the able hands of the 22-year-old in the long run.
Watford are looking to have a strong resolve to achieve something substantial in the new season and have already embarked on their journey in the Premier League to do so. Under their new manager Marco Silva, the Hornets already have some of the players at his disposal who might be developed into the best in the future. The addition of an exuberant youth like Lopez might help the Premier League club to end their season on a strong note.
