West Bromwich Albion had a mixed start to the season and are currently standing in the 10th position in the Premier League. The Baggies won two, lost two and drew three of their first seven matches so far and their primary goal would be to finish in a higher position in the league table than where they finished in the last term.

The gaffer Tony Pulis is well aware of the fact that he has one of the best defences in the Premier League at his disposal. The thing that will probably bother him is his strike force and chances are that he might be willing to add more firepower to his side. Among a number of names who are on his target list, the wily Englishman might aim for Bournemouth striker Benik Afobe as a top priority signing.

The 24-year-old striker has fallen down the pecking order at Bournemouth since the arrival of the veteran forward Jermain Defoe from Championship club Sunderland during the summer transfer window. His form has also not been worth mentioning and it is being speculated that the Congolese international will be offloaded by the Cherries in the winter transfer window.

The player has been a part of the Bournemouth side since 2015 when he was brought in from the Championship club Wolverhampton Wanderers, for whom he performed brilliantly. However, no sign of that brilliance has been found during the last couple of seasons in the performances that have been dished out by the 24-year-old as he has managed to notch up a meagre 10 goals in 56 outings so far for the South Coast club.

The Cherries are having a really torrid time in the Premier League this season and are eyeing players who can give them the much-needed impetus to turn the tables in the future. However, that might take some serious spending from them as Afobe reportedly has a price tag of £12 million on him despite his dismal performance in the top flight.

It is essential for West Bromwich Albion to add a partner for their lone man upfront Jay Rodriguez and Afobe might be the perfect one for the role. It might also prove to be a good move for the player as he might get more time out on the pitch and revive his goal-scoring form with his new club.

Though there is an outward chance that the Baggies might have to face competition from the Wolves, who might also be interested to bid for their former ace, it is quite unlikely that the Congolese international might head back into the second tier in January.
