Celtic FC, the Scottish heavyweights, registered a massive Champions League win against Anderlecht in their previous gameweek and were upbeat ahead of their trip to Allianz Arena in order to contest mighty Bayern Munich who went through a managerial conundrum in recent weeks as Jupp Heynckes was appointed as their new boss replacing Carlo Ancelotti. Brendan Rodgers, the Hoops gaffer, has done a commendable job so far since his appointment last year and was focusing on a better European run to add to their domestic supremacy. The game, however, proved to be a cakewalk for the hosts who registered a 3-0 win and strengthened their place to make it to the knockouts of the competition.
Bayern Munich Players Rated And Slated In Their Comfortable Win Vs Celtic FC
Sven Ulreich: 7
Was untested initially but Celtic created a few chances in the second half which were dealt well by Manuel Neuer’s deputy.
Joshua Kimmich: 8.5
The German fullback was sensational tonight as he kept on making forward runs and troubled Celtic defence with his crosses. Played his part in their first goal and also scored the next one with a looping header. Left spaces behind for being involved in the attack at times. Was replaced by Rafinha in closing minutes.
Jerome Boateng: 7.5
Made his aerial and physical presence known. Looked impressive with his tackles, passing skills, and clearances.
Mats Hummels: 8.5
Hummels not only scripted a clean-sheet but also marked his name in the scoresheet with a header from Robben’s corner. He was left unmarked and made full use of it from the set-piece.
David Alaba: 7
Whipped in a few crosses, maintained high passing accuracy and spent most of his time in attack.
Sebastian Rudy: 8
Was excellent with his passes ( maintained 99% accuracy) and long balls and left his mark with tackling, blocking and intercepting skills. He never let Celtic have control of the midfield.
Thiago Alcantara: 8.5
Won back possession, switched the game in the flanks using the width of the pitch and used his vision to find the attackers with his through balls. Was replaced by Arturo Vidal in the second half.
Arjen Robben: 8
Robben looked menacing down the right wing with his pace, dribble, and trickery. Assisted Hummels from a corner and was unlucky as his header was cleared off the line by Cristian Gamboa.
Thomas Muller: 8
Muller was well-positioned who picked up the rebound and finished it into the back of the net to earn his side an early lead. Was denied from a point-blank range in closing seconds by Celtic custodian Craig Gordon.
Kingsley Coman: 7
Coman started the game brightly with his direct runs and pace from the left-hand flank. Had a quiet second-half and was replaced by James Rodriguez.
Robert Lewandowski: 7.5
Troubled the Celtic backline with his aerial and physical presence inside the box and contributed in his side’s early opener.
Substitutes
Arturo Vidal: 6.5
Came in place of Alcantara and made some purposeful movements in order to add more goals to the game.
James Rodriguez: 6.5
Came in place of Koman. Played some smart one-twos and linked up well with fellow attackers upfront.
Rafinha: NA
Played too little to warrant a rating.
