Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on Walsall starlet Mitch Candlin. The forward is one of the hottest young prospects in England and the North Londoners want his to play under Mauricio Pochettino in the future.

The League One outfit awarded the player with a professional contract after he impressed the club hierarchy with his silky smooth skills. The 17-year-old burst onto the scene in the ending part of the last season and is now regarded as one of the most gifted players among the current crop of youngsters.

Spurs gaffer Mauricio Pochettino has an eye for young players and he would love to rope in the lanky forward. In the current Spurs’ squad, there are a number of talented youngsters who have been nurtured and polished by the Argentine gaffer himself.

The likes of Harry Kane, Harry Winks and Kyle Walker-Peters have emerged during the Pochettino era and are currently pretty established at their position. Kane is among the top five strikers in the world and his career graph has only been rising since Pochettino has been handed the reign at the White Hart Lane.

The core setup at the North London club is very young and Candlin could be the latest candidate to join them. Standing at six feet, the young prodigy has all the requirements to become the next star at the club and it won’t be difficult for Spurs’ chairman Daniel Levy to negotiate a deal for him.

West Ham United are also in line for the player. In the recent past, the Hammers have produced a number of exciting talents and want to take the player to another part of London. Walsall boss Jon Whitney has given a very honest review of the player. “He’s got great potential and he reflects our core values, so we have rewarded him.”

Candlin’s emergence at various levels also earned him the much-needed recognition at the international level having already trained with English U-18s as he was specially invited by gaffer Steve Cooper who has monitored the player for quite a while. This step which will help the player to grow and he is likely to have a more direct involvement if he does arrive at the North London club.

Pochettino has been building a squad for the future and the scope is very big. Walsall will try their best to keep the player at the club but if a club like Tottenham come calling, they cannot do anything.
