Latest reports have confirmed that Paris Saint Germain are interested in signing Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. The spendthrift French club have broken several transfer records by signing Neymar and possibly lining up a permanent move for Kylian Mbappe next season. They are building a fearsome team in Europe capable of competing with the best and it is reported that they are interested in bringing in one of the best keepers in Courtois.
Chelsea custodian Thibaut Courtois has come out to the media claiming that his heart lies in Madrid. With the situation at Stamford Bridge already close to exploding yet again after a title-winning season, the Blues goalkeeper has now added further fuel to the fire by expressing his heart’s desire to return to Madrid one day.
“My personal situation is related to the city of Madrid,” he said. “My two children live there with their mum. I have my daughter every day on FaceTime. She often tells me that she misses me. My son is still too small to communicate like that.
“Whenever I have the opportunity, I try to return to Spain. As a situation, it is not always easy. Yes, my heart is in Madrid. It is logical and understandable.
“If they want me, they have to contact Chelsea. We’ll see. But they have not done that. What is certain is that one day I will return to Madrid. I love Spain, I love the city, I spent three wonderful years there [with Atletico Madrid]. It is there that I became an adult.
Courtois, who signed for Chelsea back in 2011, has had a very interesting history with Madrid.
Immediately after his signing in 2011, the keeper was sent out on loan to Atletico where he spent three years on loan. The stopper developed into a world-class keeper under Diego Simeone and won several accolades in the process. In 2014, he was recalled to the Chelsea set up and since his arrival he has been Chelsea’s first choice keeper keeping the likes of Petr Cech and Asmir Begovic out of action.
Chelsea are already falling off the wagon in terms of keeping up with the big fish in the pond and losing Courtois will cause another chunk in the armoury. Hence, even though the keeper is yet to decide upon his future, the Blues must do everything in their power to keep the best players around if they wish to further develop the club rather than reflect on their past achievements. Whether it be Paris or Madrid, the Blues simply cannot afford to lose him.
