Tottenham Hotspur have reignited their interests in signing Fulham’s teenage sensation, Ryan Sessegnon ahead of their top-4 rival, Manchester United. Reports claim the Spurs are preparing a bid of £35m for the services of the highly praised U19 England international who has netted the ball 13 times and registered 4 assists in 34 EFL Championship outings for the Lillywhites this season.
Sessegnon made his debut for the senior team on 9th August 2016 at the age of 16 years and 81 days only. Ever since then he has displayed great maturity and composure for a teenager and successfully broke into the first team squad of Fulham. Attracting attention from all over Europe, Sessegnon signed his first contract with Fulham on 18th May 2017 which is set to run till the summer of 2020. Let’s just say that the ball is in Fulham’s court and the £50m valuation they have put up might just be met next summer.
Mostly operating from the left-back position, the U19 England international is capable of playing upfront in the wing position as well. The future of Sessegnon is well laid towards stardom and the switch to top-flight English football will be the right step.
The possibility of signing with the Spurs might also end up to be fruitful under Mauricio Pochettino who has already promoted the careers of many young players in his time in the Premier League as manager of Southampton and Tottenham.
The current lineup features Ben Davies in the left-back position – a Wales international who used to be Danny Rose’s understudy last season. Even Rose used to be the club’s young prodigies who has flourished into a full-fledged professional over the past 5 years.
Wherever he ends up going, Sessegnon’s priority should be to find maximum game time as that will ensure his meteoric rise and a definitive future in the English national team.
Tottenham came back from 2-0 down to draw against previous season’s Champions League finalists, Juventus in the Round of 16 fixture. Pochettino’s men maintained their poise against the experienced European contenders to come away with 2 huge away goals.
The Argentine manager is well aware of the challenge the European competition places on a team’s ability to succeed in the domestic competitions. Rose has not been happy in the recent times with the state of affairs at the North London outfit and his future there is looking more and more uncertain as the days progress.
If he makes the probable club exit, Sessegnon can be the prime candidate whose talents can be polished up for future use. Pochettino should be provided with the financial backing to rival the interests of cash stacked side like Manchester United in acquiring Sessegnon.
