Real Madrid are looking in top form of late and have shown their class in their last encounter in the Champions League against Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint Germain. The Galacticos looked in sublime form as they bounced back after conceding an early goal in the match to win it by 3-1, which almost guarantees a place for them in the next round of the competition.
However, the same can not be said about the reigning La Liga champions as they suffered a number of shocking losses to see themselves lagging a long way behind the current league leaders and potential champions Barcelona. Los Blancos are trying to win everything now to finish the season at a respectable position.
Zidane’s boys went out with that intent as they were up against one of the most unpredictable sides in the La Liga in the form of Real Betis. The match, as expected, went down the wire with the reigning European champions coming out as winners on the night.
A double strike from Marco Asensio, who has been in great form of late and goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Sergio Ramos saw them get over the line in a tight match. The Galacticos took the lead in the 11th minute through Asensio but found themselves down by two goals at the stroke of halftime.
However, the defending champions did not give up on the hope and came out on the top of their opponents in an eight-goal thriller by 3-5.
Here are the player ratings for the Real Madrid side in their important victory against Real Betis.
Keylor Navas: 6
Not his best performance of the season. However, did well to give his side the much needed three points.
Dani Carvajal: 7
Played a very important role in both defence and attack and was the provider of the pass that saw Asensio score his second goal of the night.
Nacho: 5
Looked absolutely out of sorts most of the time. Scored an unfortunate own goal as well. However, looked lively as the game progressed and ended on the winning side.
Sergio Ramos: 7
Another decent display by the captain to see his side bag an important away win. Scored the second goal.
Marcelo: 5
Had to be replaced by Theo Hernandez in the 30th minute due to a hamstring pull. Could have continued but it seemed Zidane was not in the mood of taking any kind of risks before the all-important second leg against Paris Saint Germain.
Lucas Vazquez: 7
Made most of the opportunity handed to him by Zidane and played his heart out on the right-hand side of the pitch.
Casemiro: 6
Looked vulnerable in the midfield in the absence of Kroos and Modric.
Mateo Kovacic: 6
Not the best replacement for Modric as he struggled while going into interceptions and keeping the ball in his control.
Marco Asensio: 9
Undoubtedly the best player of the night. His pace and flare were absolutely astounding and his finishing was immaculate. Looking better with every passing game.
Gareth Bale: 7
Played his part well alongside Ronaldo. Caused little threat to the opposition goal though.
Cristiano Ronaldo: 8
Scored his 12th goal of the season with a brilliant finish off the right foot. Looks like the talisman is returning to form when it is most required for his side.
Substitutes
Theo Hernandez: 6
Played his role well on the left-hand side after coming on as a substitute. Needs to work on his defensive game though.
Isco: 6
Solid in the midfield as usual.
Benzema: 7
Made most of the limited time he got and sealed the match with a sublime finish.
