Besiktas are preparing to offer Everton forward Cenk Tosun an escape route back to Turkish football. According to recent reports coming out of Merseyside, the Turkish forward has been offered an opportunity to make a transfer back to Turkey by his former club Besiktas less than two months after his arrival at Goodison Park.
Tosun has struggled to adapt his game to the high intensity and physicality of the Premier League since his reported £27m move from Turkey which, to the surprise of many, was confirmed midway through the Blues’ FA Cup encounter with Liverpool on January 5. The Turkey international has fallen behind Oumar Niasse and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the pecking order at the Merseyside club with their boss Sam Allardyce revealing that it could take until next season before their fans get to witness the best out of their big-money January signing. However, Besiktas vice-president Ahmet Nur Cebi has revealed that the 26-year-old would be welcomed back with open arms if he decides to make a switch back to his homeland. He was recently quoted to have said,
“I think he’s happy now, but at Besiktas, our doors are always open to him,”
“I would love him to come back in the future. And I think at one stage of his career, he will want a return to Besiktas because we have a brilliant atmosphere here, and players want to play for this shirt again.”
With Tosun’s future at Merseyside uncertain, let’s take a look at three potential replacements for the Toffees to consider in the near future.
Jamie Vardy
Everton can look to sign the Leicester City forward to replace Tosun. His goal-scoring record in the Premier League is excellent and he can be an ideal fit for the Toffees as they look to fight in four different competitions going into the next campaign, depending upon how they finish in the league this term. Vardy has scored 15 times in 30 appearances for the Foxes this season.
Charlie Austin
The former Queens Park Rangers forward has been in outstanding form for Southampton before he fell victim to an injury. He is undoubtedly a great squad player and is a threat in front of goal which makes him a potential option for Sam Allardyce next summer. The English striker has scored 6 goals in 17 appearances for the Saints this season so far.
Ashley Barnes
The Burnley forward is highly versatile and can operate on a number of different positions across the frontline. He can play as a striker or as a left winger and has scored 4 goals in 29 appearances for the Clarets this term. Barnes puts in a tireless shift everytime he laces up for his team which makes him an ideal option for Big Sam to consider.
