Arsenal target Lautaro Martinez has held discussions with Inter Milan and is set for a move to the Serie A. According to a recent report by Talksport, the Racing Club striker has confirmed that he has held talks with Inter Milan sporting director Piero Ausilio over the possibility of a making a switch to the San Siro next summer. The 20-year-old forward has alerted the interest of both Arsenal and Inter Milan ahead of the summer transfer window after putting in some impressive displays in Argentina this season.
It is believed that the Serie A side are currently leading the chase with some recent reports claiming that the Argentine has agreed to a €20.2m deal to make a switch to Milan. Some sources have also suggested that Martinez has put pen to paper on a deal until 2023 with the Nerazzurri. The Argentine forward has revealed that he has already held discussions with the club. In a recent interview, he was quoted to have said, “I met Ausilio and he told me about Inter,”
“He told me things that I’d already heard from [former Inter Milan striker Diego] Milito.
“My future? I’m happy to stay at Racing for now. Negotiations between the two clubs are for my agent.
“I’m definitely staying here until June, so I can’t afford to think of anything else.”
The Gunners are currently sitting in 6th place in the Premier League standings with a tally of 45 points in 26 league matches. Arsene Wenger’s men are five points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea who occupies the final Champions League spot. The potential addition of Martinez would have undoubtedly bolstered Wenger’s attacking options going into the new campaign. However, with the likes of Alexandre Lacazette, Danny Welbeck and Pierre-Emerick Aubemeyang already in their squad, it’s hard to see how Martinez would have broken into Wenger’s first-team at the Emirates Stadium in the near future.
The Argentine centre-forward has scored 7 goals and made 3 assists in 8 appearances for Racing Club this season. He has immense potential which the north London side could have looked to make use of, in their quest to bridge the gap between themselves and the Premier League’s Top 4.
However, any potential deal seems unlikely at the moment with Inter Milan ahead of them on the hunt for the South American starlet’s signature. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Martinez and whether Arsenal can successfully fend off stiff competition from Inter Milan in pursuit of the Argentine’s services.
