Tottenham Hotspur will consider themselves lucky as they managed to steal a point from their trip to Anfield this Sunday. Mohamed Salah opened the scoring for the Reds as Eric Dier’s backpass sent him through on goal. Mauricio Pochettino’s first substitution came up with the goods as Victor Wanyama scored a screamer to take Spurs on level terms, with not much of the game to play.
But the better part of the action happened after the 85th minute as Loris Karius gave away a penalty after Dejan Lovren’s mistake and later saved it, only for Mo Salah to add a second and take Liverpool 2-1 up at the other end. But Spurs came back yet again and Virgil van Dijk’s challenge on Erik Lamela earned them another penalty, which was this time dispatched by Harry Kane, who scored his 100th league goal. Spurs do remain in the 6th place but have a chance to move up if they can continue to take points in their upcoming games. Here are the player ratings for the visitors in this tie:
Hugo Lloris (6):
Came out for a couple of crosses well and could not do much to stop either goal on the night.
Kieran Trippier (6):
Did well to keep the like of Mane away from goal and also helped Spurs with some decent crosses at the other end.
Davinson Sanchez (5):
Lost the ball on a couple of occasions, inviting pressure on his side but did well to recover and keep Liverpool away from danger for most of the game.,
Jan Vertonghen (7):
Easily the most assured defender in the game, Vertonghen never allowed Salah to get the better of him and helped his side stay in the game and win a late point.
Ben Davies (5):
Almost cost his side all three points with his mistake late in the game and was constantly found out by Mo Salah, who is in sizzling form.
Eric Dier (4):
Far too lethargic on the ball and was at fault for Salah’s first goal. Was slow to react to danger and was second best to most balls for most of the game.
Mousa Dembele (6):
Right in the thick of the things for most of the game, Dembele made a number of dribbles in the middle of the pitch but failed to find the killer ball, to give his side a lead in the game.
Christian Eriksen (6):
Not his best game where he struggled to get onto the ball and create as many chances as he usually does.
Dele Alli (6):
A couple of delightful balls that opened the Liverpool defence up but was no consistent enough to win his side all three points.
Heung Min-Son (5):
Used his pace on a couple of occasions but was mostly only a number in the attack, rarely breaking the hosts.
Harry Kane (5):
Took 20 minutes to just get his 2nd touch of the game and also missed a penalty. But came up with the goods when in mattered the most, scoring from the spot late in the game.
Substitutes:
Victor Wanyama (7):
A scorcher to beat Loris Karius and get his side back into the game and also did well to see off any late danger that the hosts could manage.
Erik Lamela (6):
A couple of decent touched just outside the box to set up attacks and also won the penalty that gave his side a point from this game.
