Everton are closing in on a move for Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic. According to recent sources in the Italian media, the Toffees have made an offer for the Croatian international with Inter Milan looking to part ways with him in the January transfer window. It is understood that the Italian heavyweights are hoping to sell their prized asset before the transfer window closes at the end of the month with Everton and Arsenal both interested in securing the player’s signature. The midfielder has fallen down the pecking order at the San Siro under boss Luciano Spalletti in this campaign and are among a number of players being lined up for a move away from the San Siro in the club’s efforts to cope with Financial Fair Play rules.
Brozovic joined Inter Milan in the January transfer window of 2016 from Dinamo Zagreb for a reported transfer fee in the region of €8m and now, it is believed that his price-tag has now doubled. Some reports have claimed that the Merseyside club has made contact with Inter on Thursday over the possibility of a transfer for the Croatian international.
It is being reported that Sam Allardyce’s team has offered €16m (£14m) which is half of his release clause and it would not be enough to prise him away to Goodison Park. La Liga sides like Sevilla and Valencia have also been linked with the midfielder but a move to the Premier League seems more of a possibility at this point in time.
Everton has recently secured the services of Cenk Tosun from Besiktas and Theo Walcott from Arsenal with a potential addition of Brozovic looming on the horizon which could bolster Sam Allardyce’s midfield options going into the second half of their campaign. The Merseyside club are currently in 9th place in the Premier League table, six points adrift of Leicester City who are occupying 7th place. Allardyce could look to dive into the transfer market in their efforts to bridge the gap between themselves and the Top 6 of the Premier League.
The Croatian midfielder has made 96 appearances at Inter Milan, scoring 17 goals and providing 12 assists in all competitions during his career at the San Siro.
The possibility of Brozovic’s transfer will undoubtedly boost their midfield after Davy Klassen’s failure to live up to his reputation at Goodison Park. It remains to be seen whether the Toffees are successful in their attempts to fend off stiff competition from Arsenal in pursuit of the Serie A midfielder’s signature.
