Rangers have sealed a move for talented midfielder Greg Docherty from Hamilton Academical on Thursday. The Scottish Premiership club has confirmed on their official website that they have signed the Scottish talent on a four and a half year deal for an undisclosed fee. The 21-year-old has already completed his medical for the Gers and seals a move to the Ibrox Stadium after finding the back of the net 3 times in 25 matches for the Accies this term.
Docherty, who is a boyhood Rangers fan, made his Hamilton debut versus Alloa in the Scottish Championship on December 2013. He was just 17-year-old at the time and has gone to become a solid midfielder known for his work rate, physical strength and knack for creating and scoring goals. In a post-match interview after Rangers secured a comfortable 2-0 home victory against Aberdeen on Wednesday, manager Graeme Murty expressed his delight on acquiring Docherty’s signature and was quoted to have said, “It’s another bit of business for another young, hungry player desperate to enhance our group.
“When you see the players gelling and the improvements we’ve made, it’s an exciting time for players – and for me as a manager.
“I want to manage people who are hungry to improve.”
The 21-year-old midfielder has scored 3 goals and provided 6 assists in 21 appearances for Hamilton Academical in the league this term. He would be expected to better his record at the Ibrox Stadium with better quality around him.
Let’s take a look at how Graeme Murty might line up with Docherty in his starting lineup.
