Everton are ready to make a move for West Bromwich Albion forward Salomon Rondon this month. According to recent reports in the English press, the Toffees are considering making an offer for the Venezuelan international in the January transfer window. The Baggies striker gave the Everton defence a lot of headaches in their 1-1 draw at Goodison Park in the last Premier League game week. He was also involved in a disastrous accidental collision with the Toffees midfielder James McCarthy who suffered a horrific injury, which has sidelined him for a long time with a broken leg.
It is being reported that Everton are set to go head to head with fellow Merseyside rivals Liverpool in pursuit of the South American forward. The 28-year-old has scored 23 goals in the top tier of English football since his arrival at the West Midlands club from Zenit St Petersburg in the summer of 2015. He has only 18 months remaining on his current contract with the Baggies and may look for a move out of the club in the near future.
However, it is understood that he has settled himself in the West Midlands and won’t be looking for a move this month. With his contract running down, the Baggies may look to cash in on their prized asset if they receive a bid in excess of £15m.
Everton has recently signed Cenk Tosun from Besiktas and Theo Walcott from Arsenal with a potential move for Rondon looming on the horizon which could make it a trio of attacking options to have arrived under Sam Allardyce’s watch this month. However, it seems highly unlikely that they would go for another striker with Cenk Tosun, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Wayne Rooney and Oumar Niasse already vying for a place in Allardyce’s first-team.
The Toffees are currently sitting in 9th place in the Premier League standings, six points behind Leicester City who are in 7th place. Allardyce is looking to strengthen his squad even more in this transfer period to try and bridge that gap going into the second half of the season.
Rondon has scored 5 goals and made two assists in 25 matches for West Bromwich Albion this season across all competitions. His record of late definitely doesn’t justify why the two Merseyside clubs are looking to acquire his services in January but the Venezuelan has already shown in a number of games that he is willing to work hard for his team and put in a tireless shift up top. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of the Venezuelan forward and whether Everton ends up making an offer for his services.
