Seria A leaders Napoli has won the race to sign Swansea City target and Ajax winger Amin Younes this month. According to recent reports, the Italian club has completed a €5m deal to bring the Dutch Eredivisie forward to Italian football. The Naples based club already agreed on a deal that would have seen the German winger come to the club next summer, but reports are now emerging that the Italian side has decided to pay a fee to bring the forward earlier in this January transfer window as they look to win the Serie A title this season.
The German international has recently turned down an opportunity to join Swansea City in the Premier League in favour of a move to Italy which would come as a big blow in Carlos Carvalhal’s attempts to keep the Welsh club in the top tier of English football. Younes has featured in 13 matches for AFC Ajax this season, scoring two goals and providing two assists in all competitions.
With the Swans set to miss out on the German talent, let’s take a look at three potential alternatives for the Welsh club to pursue this month.
Leonardo Bittencourt
The FC Koln winger has struggled in the Bundesliga so far but could flourish playing in the Premier League for the Swans, if given the opportunity. The former Borussia Dortmund starlet is highly versatile and can play in a number of positions across the midfield as well as a striker up top. He can operate on either wing or in the number 10 position which would be an ideal asset for the Welsh club in their quest to save themselves from being relegated going into the second half of the campaign. The 24-year-old has scored a goal and made two assists in 18 appearances for the Bundesliga club this season.
Arnaud Lusamba
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder has struggled to find game time at OGC Nice and could do well if given a chance to shine in English football. The French midfielder has just featured in 6 matches for the Ligue 1 club this season. However, Swansea manager Carlos Carvalhal could be the perfect man to get the best out of the Ligue 1 talent in their fight to save themselves from a potential relegation at the end of the season.
Elias Kachunga
The Huddersfield Town attacking midfielder had a sensational year for the Terriers last season when his goal-scoring exploits helped the Yorkshire club gain promotion to the Premier League. However, he has found game time limited under David Wagner in this campaign making only 19 appearances for the club. Swansea could take a chance on him in the hope that he would reignite his career in Wales and keep them in the Premier League for another season.
