Leicester City are looking to make a move for Besiktas defender Dusko Tosic. According to recent reports coming out of Turkish media, the Foxes are being linked with a move for the veteran Serbian centre-back but they might face stiff competition in pursuit of the player. It is believed that the West Midlands club will be joined by a whole of clubs which include Everton, Celtic, Stoke City, Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace on the hunt for the 33-year-old defender’s signature.
Besiktas president Fikret Orman has reportedly travelled to England and is all set to negotiate with Leicester over a possible transfer for their veteran defender. It was also reported that Orman travelled to England last week to hold talks regarding a potential deal for the Foxes’ forward Islam Slimani. Some sources have also suggested that the Besiktas president was in attendance to witness the former Premier League champions’ midweek FA Cup clash versus Fleetwood Town. He was reportedly keeping a keen eye on Slimani’s performance ahead of potential talks with his club.
The Turkish club are ready to let Tosic depart for around £3.5m but it is highly unlikely that the Foxes would want another ageing defender, particularly one who turned 33 recently. Leicester captain Wes Morgan is currently sidelined due to an injury while Robert Huth is close to a first-team return and both of those players are well in their 30s.
The former Serbian international is currently out injured for Besiktas but has featured in 23 matches this season and has scored 3 goals while providing one assist in all competitions. He has caught the eye with some solid performances in defence for the Turkish club, especially in the UEFA Champions League group-stages which helped Besiktas qualify into the knockout stages of Europe’s premier competition. The 33-year-old centre-back also has 21 international caps to his name during his time in the Serbian national team.
The potential addition of Tosic could help add more experience into the Leicester City backline but with players such as Wes Morgan and Robert Huth already in the squad, it’s hard to understand the Foxes boss Claude Puel’s thought process behind the transfer. The West Midlands club are currently occupying 7th place in the Premier League standings, eight points behind 6th placed Arsenal. It might be too late for a top 6 push but they can definitely look to consolidate their position in the top half of the table and look to do well in the FA Cup.
It remains to be seen if the Foxes make a move to sign Dusko Tosic in this winter transfer window.
