Tottenham Hotspur failed to land their top transfer target in Ross Barkley, who recently signed for Chelsea, from Everton for a meagre fee of around £15m. this has left the manager Mauricio Pochettino in search of another midfielder, to add quality and numbers to his side, that is struggling to break into the top-4 of the points table this season.
This has seen the club linked with exciting stars recently but one player now exciting the fans around the world of the club is youngster Fabian Ruiz.
According to reports from Spanish news outfit Marca, Tottenham Hotspur are ready to make a move for the Real Betis youngster, who is also wanted by AS Roma. He currently has a release clause of just £14m and will be a huge bargain for either club.
He is right up there with the most exciting midfielders on show in La Liga at the moment and Betis are desperate to get him to sign a new deal. He is widely regarded as a bigger talent than the Real Madrid starlet Dani Ceballos, who made headlines last summer.
A product of the Betis academy, the 21-year old broke into the senior side in 2014 but has only cemented a place in the first team this season. He has made 11 La Liga starts, picking up two goals and three assists to add to a goal in 3 appearances for the Spanish U21 side.
A central midfielder who is comfortable playing in an attacking role, Ruiz is a gifted footballer, with a smart head on his shoulder. He can dribble past opponents with ease, pick his teammates with accurate through balls, send his team on the counter by releasing the ball early and can also test the goalkeeper with thunderous strikes.
He is a decent crosser but loves to play through the middle, with the ball at his feet. At just 21, he has already learnt the art of hold up play and has the confidence to dictate play in the midfield, even against the toughest of the opponents.
He matches Pochettino’s recruitment model to the book and is a real bargain, at just £14m, in the current transfer market.
At Wembley, he is a genuine upgrade on French ace Moussa Sissoko, who has just not been consistent enough. He may be viewed as a long-term replacement for Mousa Dembele, but he is a player who adds a different dimension to the game.
In Ruiz and Harry Winks, Spurs will have one of the most exciting midfield combinations in years to come if they are able to land the Spanish youngster. But do you think he is ready for first-team action in England?
