Barcelona winger Aleix Vidal has been linked with a move to Manchester United.
The 28-year-old player joined the Catalan side for a €18 million fee plus four in add-ons in the summer of 2015. Due to an embargo placed on the club by FIFA for breaking their rules of signing underage foreign players, Vidal was unable to represent his new club until January 2016.
However, his early days at the club proved to be highly ineffective with the club’s then manager Luis Enrique completely isolating the player from any first-team appearance. He has made his way back to the team somewhat under new manager Ernesto Valverde making 15 appearances this season and scoring two goals and making three assists.
The winger made his name at Almeria where he made over 120 appearances scoring around 17 goals and then moving on to Sevilla for a season where he played exceptionally well thus earning his big call to Barcelona.
At the Nou Camp, managers have tried to use Vidal in different areas of the pitch as well making him play as a winger rather than a fullback. The player has a good sense of attacking play, can dribble well and has a keen eye for goal. He is well suited to the role of a squad player in a big club where he can come in and make impacts both as a substitute or as a first team player in the smaller matches. He is now being linked with a move away from Spain after reports confirmed that he is still not happy with his game time at Catalonia. Having fallen behind Nelson Semedo and Sergi Roberto, the player intends to move to get first team action.
As for Manchester United, it is no big news that the Red Devils are in the market for a winger. Mourinho was desperate to add a wide man back last summer and having missed out on a major signing in that position, it seems that the Portuguese could be getting his desired player this time around.
If Vidal were to move to Jose’s United, it will help Mourinho cover two areas of the pitch at the same time. In attack, Vidal will complete the team consisting the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial, Paul Pogba and would be very effective as an impact sub beside all these superstars. Moreover, he can also play as a right back thus giving Mourinho cover for Antonio Valencia should the Ecuadorian get injured or suspended.
