A professional career of a player can go wrong in several ways. There can be inconsistency on the player’s part, a wrong transfer to a wrong club, a change in management in the existing club, the list goes on. However, of the many ways a career can be damaged, none is more painful than a player suffering an unfortunate injury.
Many greats have had their careers stagnated, diminished or completely finished by injuries. There was Arsenal’s Eduardo, Liverpool’s Fernando Torres who was never the same player after his ankle operations or most recently Arsenal’ Santi Cazorla who might never play again.
The case relevant here is the story of Danny Ings. The ex-Burnley man had a promising start to his career and became a regular at Burnley where he scored around 40 goals in just over 120 appearances. The achievement was rather special given the player’s ripe age and it earned him a move to Liverpool where he had the opportunity to work with the man who made Robert Lewandowski, Jurgen Klopp.
In what was turning out to be a promising career, his work was undone by not one but two injuries, both on his knee and both serious. The player lost his sharpness and could never cement a place at Anfield. At the age of 25, Danny Ings has recovered from his injuries and has possibly returned to full fitness.
He has had to undergo serious rehab and fitness training at the club to make a return and has recently claimed that he is in the best shape of his career. However, it seems that his claim is not being backed by Klopp who has not given the player much of a glimpse into his first team.
Klopp cannot be blamed for overlooking Ings either. The German has a host of attackers including players like Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, Daniel Sturridge and Sadio Mane to choose from already with Benjamin Woodburn waiting patiently in the wings. It appears unlikely that Ings will be able to break into the first team amidst such fierce competition.
A smart move for him would be to go to a club of relatively lesser magnitude where he will get regular game time. This is where Huddersfield Town would be an ideal destination for Ings who will have no qualms about signing on the striker.
David Wagner’s men have enjoyed a decent start to their English campaign and are eleventh on the table. However, their options up front have not really clicked with Huddersfield scoring only 17 goals in nineteen games.
Transfer Window podcast guest and pundit Ian McGarry feels that Huddersfield would do well to get another forward on board.
“A striker is a top priority for Huddersfield,” he said.
“They had a dreadful run without scoring goals away in the Premier League.
“The two strikers they recruited in the summer have not been prolific.
“There’s a lot of talk about getting a loan deal for Danny Ings.
“I think he will probably look to recruit someone with Premier League experience because that’s where they have fallen down.
“I think he’ll have a budget of about £15m-£20m.”
With Klopp and Wagner having a good relation, a deal could be stuck rather easily with all parties standing to gain from the deal.
