Philipp Max is heading into the January transfer window with multiple clubs interested in his services. Manchester City scouts were sent over to watch the left back play in a 3-3 draw against SC Freiburg.
The 24-year-old has been the best left-back in the Bundesliga this season. Setting up his 10th goal in just 18 appearances, Max has now broken a club record for the most assists in a single campaign within December with the second half of the current season still left.
Chelsea view him as the ideal alternative to Juventus defender Alex Sandro who has also been heavily linked with Conte’s side. If the transfer of the Juventus left-back does not materialise, Conte will have his eyes set on landing the German from Bundesliga.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is currently utilising Fabian Delph as a makeshift left-back with a injury-ravaged Benjamin Mendy still on the sidelines. The Citizens are in a perfect position right now, 11 points clear at the top of the table and an easy contention to the knockout stages of the Champions League. Guardiola however, is still eager to add more talent to the side and address all the nooks and crannies and end the season with multiple trophies. With the run of form, Max is in he might just put the side over the top.
The Premier League giants cruised to another victory yesterday against Tottenham which ended 4-1 at the Etihad.
The 24-year-old’s set-piece wizardry and sublime delivery from the left make him one of the league’s most creative players.
Everton and Tottenham are also monitoring the 24-year-old ahead of the January transfer window. Tottenham left-back Danny Rose might leave the club in January, heavily linked to Manchester United, and Pochettino will be left with the task of replacing him. Max is one of the many candidates he is considering with Ben Davies unable to put in consistent performances for the Spurs.
Sam Allardyce has pulled Everton out of the relegation spot to the 10th spot of the points table right after getting appointed. They had started the season poorly but judging by their recent run of games, things have started to turn around for them. Allardyce is also facing defensive problems and is looking for talent to add in January to see them finish in the top half of the table if not in an European qualification spot.
