Napoli ace Marek Hamsik has been often rumoured as a possible transfer target for many top clubs in Europe. The dynamic midfielder, who has gone on to make more than 450 appearances for the club, has however, shown his loyalty to the club and is now a fan favourite at Naples.
The 30-year old, however, has not yet ruled out the possibility of a move away from Napoli in the future. In an interview, Hamsik admitted to the fact that it would be hard for him to turn away interest shown by Manchester United despite the fact that he is happy and stable at Napoli. “It would surely be the hardest decision of my career”, the 30-year old was quoted saying.
A central midfielder by nature, Hamsik has an expansive game and his athletic abilities help him produce stunning moments from time to time on the pitch. In his 10 year spell at the club after joining in 2007, Hamsik has gone on to make 470 appearances for the Naples outfit scoring a healthy 114 goals and setting up another 109 in the process.
Reports are now suggesting that English club Liverpool is considering a bid to bring in the Slovak in the next transfer window. Although Liverpool owners FSG have a policy of spending in youth, the lack of trophies and the influence of Jurgen Klopp might sway their decision to bring in one of Europe’s top and a proven playmaker.
Liverpool’s interest in the Slovak rises from the fact that Klopp is preparing himself for a future without two of his current first team players. The first is obviously the pivotal Philippe Coutinho. The story of the Brazilian playmaker is now well known in the media with Coutinho wanting a move away from Liverpool to Barcelona and Liverpool playing hardball and refusing to let the player leave. Although they have stemmed of any interest from Nou Camp, for the time being, Barcelona will surely return for their priority signing and Klopp will find it difficult to repeat the trick a second time.
More relevant however is the fact that Emre Can has entered the last year of his contract. The exciting German playmaker has been linked with a number of clubs across Europe and with Can yet to sign an extension with only seven weeks left to January, a time from which he can negotiate with other clubs for a pre-contract agreement; Klopp will want a solution to his midfield crisis.
In such a situation, the pursuit of Hamsik becomes relevant and adding a player of his experience and calibre to a young, exciting Liverpool side will definitely enrich their midfield quality.
