Real Madrid have to do some catch up in the La Liga if they want to match the pace of Barcelona. The Catalan giants are unbeaten in the Spanish top tier so far and are looking pretty menacing at this moment.
Madrid also suffered an uncharacteristic defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League and that is the first time in the Zinedine Zidane era they lost two consecutive matches.
Los Blancos would definitely try to improve their billing in the winter transfer window and they reportedly are ready to give Barcelona a fitting challenge in the race to sign Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho. The Brazilian attacking midfielder was the subject of interest from Barcelona in the summer but they failed to persuade the Reds to let him go.
The Catalans are expected to revive their interest in the player in January but are likely to face a stiff completion in Real Madrid. We might see both clubs in a bidding war, which will only help Liverpool as Coutinho’s price could reach up to the £150m mark.
Madrid’s current condition is very vulnerable and Zidane is likely to request Florentino Perez for a number of players. Madrid have already enquired about Coutinho’s availability and have a war chest ready for the Brazilian.
The Liverpool no.10 has certainly been the most influential player in the last couple of seasons at Anfield and it would take an insane amount of money to tempt him out of there.
Isco has emerged as the centre of attraction at the Santiago Bernabeu and currently, there are no potential backup available at Zidane’s disposal, which could expose them in the near future, if the Spanish midfielder picks up an injury.
Coutinho is ready to leave the club in January and this could be the club’s best time to cash in on him. Barcelona is likely to be his preferred destination but Madrid is ready to bail him out.
Paris Saint Germain are also reportedly in the race but the French giants splurged a lot of money in the summer transfer window and are unlikely to go beyond a certain point.
Madrid are currently lagging in the La Liga race as they are already eight points behind Barcelona. In Champions League also, they are behind Spurs, who lead their group and signing like these are fast becoming a necessity at the Bernabeu. But is Coutinho the right man for them?
