European champions Real Madrid endured a disappointing 1:1 draw in the third matchday of the Champions League. Despite retaining the top position in the group standings, Los Blancos were left very disappointed after failing to make use of a number of chances throughout the game.
The hosts were initially trailing by an own goal from defender Raphael Varane but managed to get back into the game just before halftime as Toni Kroos was fouled inside the penalty box. Cristiano Ronaldo converted the resulting penalty to level the scoreline. But the Spanish champions could never pick the lock of a sturdy Tottenham defence afterwards, ultimately finishing the game at 1-1.

Keylor Navas (6.5/10): The Costa Rican International made a few notable saves but can count himself lucky not to face many goal-bound shots from the opposition.
Achraf Hakimi (6.5/10): The Real Madrid youngster showed glimpses of his talents, with some wonderful runs into the right-hand channel but his influence started to fade away as the game progressed.
Raphael Varane (5.5/10): A very nervy performance from the French International. Varane was far from being neat and tidy in defence as we are all generally accustomed to and also gifted the opener in the first half. An awful display from the 24-year-old.
Sergio Ramos (6/10): Today was one of the nights where even Sergio Ramos looked vulnerable in defence. The Spaniard got owned by Harry Kane twice and was looking hapless at times.
Marcelo (6/10): Didn’t make much of an impact on the left-hand channel. In fact, Marcelo was almost non-existent in the first half but slowly started build himself up in the second half. A very ineffective performance from the Brazilian fullback.
Casemiro (6.5/10): Guarded the defence well, as you would expect from the Brazilian star. However, Casemiro did look uncertain at times, often leaving space in behind, the very space he was sworn to cover.
Luka Modric (8/10): An Absolutely stunning performance from the former Tottenham man. Modric totally awed the fans with his sublime technique and class. However, at the end of the day, he too failed to find an opening against this sturdy backline of Tottenham.
Toni Kroos (7.5/10): Complemented well with Luka Modric, as the duo formed a formidable partnership in the centre of the pitch. Kroos won the foul which initially led to the penalty just before the half-time whistle.
Isco (8.5/10): Arguably the best Real Madrid player on the night, Isco showed his real class with some neat and tidy touches to get past opposition defenders at will. His smart flicks and lofted balls also caused trouble for the opposition defence.
Cristiano Ronaldo (8/10): Caused havoc to the opposing defence with his direct running and clever movements. Ronaldo looked the most likely to score in the second half, but it wasn’t his day as it seems.
Karim Benzema (5/10): Probably the worst player on the night, Karim Benzema spurned about four clear-cut chances which could have given Real Madrid a superior lead over their opponents. He was rightly subbed off in the final phase of the game.
Substitutes
Marco Asensio (NA): Came on for struggling Karim Benzema hoping to make a difference with his creativity. But the youngster failed in his attempts to breach through the opposition lines.
Lucas Vazquez (NA): Was subbed on for a tired Isco with just four minutes remaining on the clock.
