Harry Kane, the wonderkid from Tottenham Hotspur has now become a goal-scoring machine in Europe. The England international has already won two consecutive Golden Boots at the age of 24. Since returning from Leicester City, where he was on loan, at the end of 2013-14 season, Kane has gone on to score 105 goals in 148 appearances for club and country, winning several individual accolades in the process. The Tottenham man is in dazzling form after scoring 13 goals in the month of September.
Kane’s overall game allows him to contribute much more than just goals. His strength in the air, off the ball movement, physicality, and the ability to shoot with either foot, makes him a daunting prospect. Besides such great physical aspects, Kane is seen as one of the leaders of the young Tottenham team and is tipped to take over the armband once Hugo Lloris retires.
The English striker has been praised by pundits and managers all around the globe with Conte hailing him as the ‘complete striker’, days after Chelsea bought Morata and Pep-Guardiola referring to Tottenham as ‘that Harry Kane team’.
The striker, who was named in the Ballon D’Or shortlist yesterday, has now become the next feature piece of Real Madrid’s star hunt. Real Madrid president Florentino Perez wants the star striker to lead his attacking lineup and is reportedly readying a tasteful offer for Tottenham Hotspur.
Kane is unlikely to move for a fee below £179m (€200m). Perez who is known for his fascination of breaking the bank to make star signings for the Galacticos is prepared to offer three Real Madrid stars in an exchange deal for the Tottenham man. The players to be included are ex-Tottenham stars Gareth Bale and Luka Modric and French forward Karim Benzema.
Bale although still a world class player is injury prone and has never been able to steady himself to find a position in Real’s starting line-up. Modric considered to be the world’s best midfielder at the moment turns 33 next year and Perez believes Mateo Kovacic and Dani Ceballos are more than prepared to replace the Croatian. Benzema is being offered as part of the direct exchange of a striker for a striker.
While such a humongous move for a single player is sure to send fans and media into a frenzy, both Kane and Tottenham must consider the deal before finalizing it. For Harry Kane, while it would seem the next logical big step, he must remember that Real is a place where even stars have failed to perform and there is no place for even a minute of average football in the team lest he fancies to taste the fans’ irk.
As for Tottenham, while they would be getting three superstars, one must remember all of them are ageing and do not have more than 3-4 years of top quality of football left in them, unlike Kane who is likely to perform at the top level for the next decade or so.
A gamble to take for Tottenham should Kane force a move but with Kane’s loyalty to the Spurs’ side, it is a move they can avoid, especially if they hope to establish themselves as a top club in European football. All in all, after such reports, Tuesday’s Champions League tie at the Santiago Bernabeu should be a treat to watch.
