Newcastle United have made a mixed start to their campaign in the comeback season in top flight, having won three of their first seven matches in the Premier League so far. They held one of the biggies of top-flight English football, Liverpool, to a 1-1 draw in a hard-fought encounter in their last match, indicating that they might be in for a decent run this season, after their promotion from the Championship.
Their boss Rafa Benitez, however, might be a bit wary of his side’s performances in the midfield and might look to add some top class players to their side.
The lack of quality players has been a cause of concern for the Spanish coach and he has been vocal in his protest against being allegedly deprived of the requisite amount he needed to add creativity and good players to his side in he summer transfer window.
However, the Spaniard is looking quite determined to bring in new recruits to the side as he knows that it is imperative for them to end the season on a strong note. Among a number of players whom he has been eyeing for some time now, the Belgian midfielder Dennis Praet is right on top of his target list and there might be an attempt from Benitez to bring him into the side in January.
Playing for the Italian club Sampdoria, the player has made a name for himself as one of the most highly regarded enforcers in Serie A and might be a very good addition to the Magpies, helping stabilise their midfield, delivering the ball to the right player in the right area with his crisp passing.
The 23-year-old Belgian player has been nothing less than an asset for his side and has already made 41 appearances for them since his arrival in 2016.
His ability to fight for the ball at the heart of the midfield has been exceptional, helping his side keep maximum possession of the ball. He also can be dangerous in aerial duels, using his strength to get rid of his opponents, thus helping keep the ball.
The Magpies have faltered so far this season due to the lack of composure at the heart of the midfield, which might be rather detrimental for them in the long run. The addition of the 23-year-old midfielder Dennis Praet can help them to strengthen their midfield by a great deal. But is he the man they need at the moment?
