Manchester United might have had a gala time in the Premier League but some of their players are unsettled at this moment and Daley Blind is one of them. The Dutch international started the season as a first choice left back but subsequently lost his way to Ashley Young and co.
If reports are to be believed, Fenerbahce is keeping a track on the activity of Blind and are very keen to rope in the player in January. Blind arrived in 2014 and has been an integral part of the Red Devils setup so far.
But a sudden change in his current status might force him to reconsider his future at the Premier League clubs. The 27-year-old is one of the best utility footballers the world has ever seen and has been pretty impeccable in his duties.
He had emerged as a pivotal player in the last season which was marred by injuries. Blind came to the rescue of Jose Mourinho who didn’t have many options at his disposal. From defensive duties to midfield duties, the Dutch player played his part with sheer dedication and his ever-smiling attitude has gone down well with the Red Devils fans.
But the limited opportunity in this season might hurt his chances to get a seat on the Russia bound flight next year and he is likely to ponder his options. With Luke Shaw also back in the fray he knows he has a very tough task to make it to the starting lineup.
With the arrival of Victor Lindelof, opportunities would also be scarce in the backline so Blind might have to make a decision. He is currently with the national team for World Cup qualifiers and the Oranjes are in a do or die position as they are gearing up for a Cup finals of sorts.
The Dutch side already missed the Euro 2016 finals and they cannot afford to miss the World Cup finals which will send a very bad message to the football fanatics.
So much will depend on how the Dutch progress in the qualifiers but United shouldn’t let him leave. He could be a brilliant cover for Nemanja Matic in the defensive midfield who has been a star since his move from Chelsea in the summer.
Also, Blind’s ability to fill in, probably every available option, would be an asset in this gruelling campaign. So Mourinho should keep him at least for another season.
