Reports emerging from Daily Mail, claim that Chelsea FC are eyeing the development of Steaua Bucharesti talent Florinel Coman. The 19-year-old is highly regarded as one of the top teenage talents in European football and even more so in Romania. Coman has a stunning release clause of £88m in his current contract with Steaua.
It is further reported that technical director Michael Emenalo flew to Romania last week to watch the young talent in their win over Dinamo.
Though still in his early days as a professional footballer, Coman moved to Romanian footballing giants Steaua this summer, from his previous club FC Viitorul for only £2m. However, he was handed a staggering release clause of £88m in his contract as the club regard him to be on the same level as Kylian Mbappe, the current poster boy of European football right now.
Steaua’s high hopes for Coman signals the fact that the winger does have something to offer, considering the club is known for identifying and then nurturing several youth players.
Naturally a winger, Florinel Coman plays with a certain flair in his game and has been capped five times by the Romanian U-21 side. Blessed with stunning dribbling skills, Coman’s quick feet make him a tough player to defend against in the final third. He normally plays like a prolific winger, being equally adept across the front line.
Florinel Coman is kind of a reminiscent of Eden Hazard, though he uses his body a lot less unlike Hazard. He has the willingness to run in straight at the defence, always looking to create some trouble for the opposition defence time and time again. He also has an eye for goal as well. During his time with FC Viitorul, the winger scored six goals and provided eight assists in 47 games.
With some constant turmoil on Eden Hazard’s future, Chelsea could certainly make use of a player like Florinel Coman in their ranks. Besides, the defending champions of England are running out of supply from the wings it seems, with Pedro, Willian, and Musonda remaining as the only options if Hazard gets injured. Coman’s playing style and technique can also lend Chelsea an extra dimension in the final third.
However, it is very unlikely that Coman will leave Steaua this January or even next summer. But Chelsea should be well advised to keep track of their Romanian target as the young winger has some serious potential.
