The dismal performance of Crystal Palace has ripped them apart this season. The Eagles are yet to accumulate a single point in this season and are the first team to lose their opening six games without finding the back of the net once. They are in a dire need of a forward following the awful displays of Christian Benteke and have now shifted their attention to the loan market and have listed a number of potential candidates.
Ricky Lambert has emerged as a possible transfer target for the Eagles. The veteran English international was released by Cardiff City and is right now win the contention for a surprise move to Selhurst Park. Palace chairman Steve Parish is an avid admirer of the player and might approach him for a short-term deal. The experienced striker is considering all possible offers from clubs and might explore new possibilities.
Palace hierarchy are desperate for some emergency signings and are ready to give the veteran forward a chance to revive his career. They already showed the door to Goalkeeper Kleton Perntreou to make room for a new arrival who has given a hint that a transfer might happen in the upcoming days.
“I got told by the club officials that they needed to free up space in the 25 man squad for a new signing that should be coming in the next few days,” he said in a recent interview
Benteke hobbled off the pitch and looking at his injury, he could be set for a long spell down the sidelines which will deepen the crisis for the Eagles. Hodgson is under severe pressure to deliver and might seek help of his former disciple who he gave his England debut, when he was the coach of the Three Lions.
Lambert hasn’t really shined since he left Southampton where he was known for his emphatic scoring skills. Benteke could miss up to six weeks and Hodgson needs to act fast if he wants to have an immediate impact at the Selhurst Park.
It would be difficult for the player to jump in straight to the equation but he could heal the wound for a temporary period. Lambert is working on his fitness as he is trying hard to get back to the pitch as soon as he can.
Hodgson badly needs some men on the front and the former Southampton man could be that player although an offer is yet to be made. Is he the right options for Palace?
