The transfer window is closed but gossips have been pouring in endlessly. The summer window saw a record amount of money spent on a number of players with Neymar’s £198million transfer fee being the highest ever money splashed on a single player.
Barcelona were left with a lot of cash and they were supposed to spend vigorously in the summer. They did make their intentions known with repeated attempts for Philippe Coutinho but they failed to land their desired target as Liverpool’s tough stance on the player foiled their chances.
If rumours are to be believed Barcelona will return with a renewed attempt to sign Nice midfield sensation Jean Michael Seri. The Ivorian was a matter of discussion between numbers of clubs as he had been the centre of attraction throughout the summer.
Midfield problems have been a severe dent in Barcelona’s planning as none of the midfielders in the likes of Andres Iniesta, Andre Gomes, and Ivan Rakitic have been able to pull the strings in the middle of the park.
Barcelona did have an agreement in place with the French club as they were ready to pay a jaw dropping £40m for the midfielder but the Catalans backed out at the last moment for some unknown reasons.
It is being said Ernesto Valverde wants to emphasize on his attacks and had prioritized the arrival of an attacker rather than investing on a midfielder. They tried with their heart out for the services of Coutinho but Liverpool remained defiant to deny them from signing the Brazilian.
So Barcelona have decided to move on and are expected to raid the French club again in January. Seri blasted his club accusing them behind this failed transfer.
“The negotiations were broken because the talks between the two clubs went from bad to worse. From what I have been able to find out the transfer did not happen due to financial reasons.”
If the Spanish giants come calling again, he will be more than happy to join the club as it’s been a dream for him to don the Catalans jersey. Barcelona started the season with very good intentions and it seems they are already on course to making amends this campaign.
There have been uncertainties over the future of Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta as both the players are yet to pledge their future to the club. Messi has been the backbone of the club and losing him will be a disaster for them.
However, Seri’s arrival will put a question mark on Andre Gomes’ future who hasn’t had a good time at the Camp Nou so far. Is he worth the fuzz?
