Tottenham Hotspur fans might have something to cheer about finally as reports emerge of the Lilywhites closing on yet another deal for their young sensation, Dele Alli. Following reports of Barcelona getting hot on heels of the English midfielder as Neymar closes in on a massive £200 million move away from Camp Now to Paris Saint-Germain, this move looks more like a precautionary measure from Spurs’ side.
It was only last September that Spurs extended their security and Alli’s contract, which can keep him with the North London club till 2022. However, as per reports, his last contract has left him behind all the top earners in the club like Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris by around £55,000 a week, and Spurs want to ensure that the player stays in his best of morale with them.
If Barcelona do make a move for the youngster, Alli is likely to cost them around £100 million now, which is an astronomical surge compared to the meagre £5 million for which he moved from League One side Milton Keynes Dons back in 2015. Alli’s progress has been phenomenal over the past two seasons and the fact that Barcelona wants him as Neymar’s replacement reflects it aptly.
Though the summer season remains for just one month now, Barcelona are expecting more arrivals at Nou Camp before it ends as per their president Josep Bartomeu. Speaking to media on Saturday, Bartomeu stressed that midfield remains a key area of recruitment for the side. “There will be more players (coming in), one in the middle, that’s for sure,” he said.
European giants Real Madrid and Manchester City are been reportedly keen on landing the youngster who was voted the PFA Young Player of the Year following his significant role in helping Tottenham Hotspur finish runners-up behind Premier League champions, Chelsea.
He managed to score 32 goals and provide 24 assists for Spurs over the past two seasons giving the side reasons enough to offer him a third contract in such a short span of time. The new deal could earn him as much as £80,000 a week, putting him on a line with some of the finest talents in the league.
While Barcelona are fighting massively to keep Neymar at the club, away from the Ligue 1 billionaires, Tottenham are expected to do the same with their promising youngster.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino and Daniel Levy have reiterated time and again of their intention of holding on to Dele Alli so if he signs a new contract, it will be a huge reason to cheer for the Spurs fans, who have to not had much to cheer about this summer.
