Scott Brown, the Celtic captain and one of the most highly regarded midfielders in the country, has pledged his long-term future to his current club and has said that he is on his way to sign a new contract with the current Scottish Premiership champions. The current contract of the Scottish international will be expiring at the end of the 2017/18 season.
It was back in 2007 when the inspirational Hoops skipper made his first appearance for the club after making a move from fellow Scottish team Hibernian for a transfer fee of £4.4 million. Since then he has been an integral part of the squad and has been playing a very important role in stabilising the midfield for the 48 times Scottish Premiership champions.
The inspirational Hoops captain has been one of the most reliable players in a central midfield position in the Premiership and has attracted interest from a number of clubs from both Scotland as well as Europe. However, the 32-year-old has now made it sure that he will stay back at the Celtic Park and might see the rest of his career through at the home of the Hoops.
However, the midfielder is supposed to discuss regarding his future with the club hierarchy, which can happen only after the Champions League qualifying campaign is over.
The current club manager, Brendan Rodgers, who is a big fan of the midfielder and has developed a great relationship with the Scotland international, since his arrival at the Celtic Park in the last summer, wants him to stay back at the club for the rest of his career. He has reportedly held talks about this with the player as well.
Rodgers has said that it completely depends on Brown, whether he will look to stay or leave the club, and his decision will be accepted with all respect by the manager. However, now that the club hierarchy has stepped in and is ready to have a discussion about the long-term future of the veteran midfielder with the club, it will also depend on the player as well as the club to take the decision, which can happen once the Champions League qualifiers are over.
The 32-year-old central midfielder has also made himself available for the national team selection, as he came out of retirement to play against England in his country’s qualifier for Russia 2018 World Cup in November last year. He announced his retirement from international football in August last year.
