Mauricio Pochettino is in charge of an exciting project in London as his Tottenham Hotspur side are now one of the most consistent teams in the Premier League. The recruitment model at the club is quite different from the ones usually followed by top clubs in the country.
Pochettino certainly wants top quality stars at the club this summer but also has an eye on some of the brightest youngsters in world football for a move this summer and one player now linked with a move to the English club is Vincent Marcel.
According to French news outfit Foot Mercato, Tottenham Hotspur have made Marcel a priority target this summer and are ready to offer him a five-year deal at the club. The report also claims that the Spurs have had an eye on the Nice attacker for quite a while now and have agreed on terms of the contract with the player already.
A youth product of Le Havre, one of the most reputed academies in France, Marcel joined Nice as a teenager in 2015 and took just a year to break into the first team. He has represented the French U21 national side but is yet to establish himself in the first team at the Allianz Riviera but Pochettino believes that he is the right man for his side.
A versatile attacker capable of playing as a midfielder as well, Marcel is a right winger who loves to have the ball at his feet. He is quick and hard to track while his movement in the final third is a nightmare for most defenders.
Strong in the air and decent with his passing, the 20-year old is a winger who loves to take on his man on the flank but is more adept at playing short passes that allow him to break through even the best of the backlines. At just 20, he will improve as a player and though he failed to score or assists in the ten appearances last season, is a star for the future.
The Spurs are expected to welcome back Eric Lamela from a lengthy injury lay-off but Heung-Min Son remains the only backup for the first team in this position and Pochettino will have to spend on one this summer.
Georges-Kevin N’Koudou was the manager’s young signing from the previous summer but he has failed to deliver and Pochettino now wants Marcel to be the man for the next season. He has the attributes to be a hit in the Premier League but is he the right man for the Spurs?
