Jose Mourinho is a very busy man these days as the Portuguese manager has been chalking plans for the upcoming season. The ex-Chelsea manager was handed the reins one year ago and had a very topsy-turvy first season at the Old Trafford.
Having spent close to £150m in the last summer, there was a different sort of expectation among the United supporters at the start of last season. Despite not having the greatest of starts, Mourinho was able to maintain his success story on the English soil as United went on to lift the Europa League title for the first time in the club’s history.
United have already snapped up the signing of Victor Lindelof from Benfica and are very close to sealing a deal for Chelsea midfielder, Nemanja Matic. Mourinho has an enriched side full of talent but needs to sort out the exact balance to put his side in a much better position than they were in the previous few seasons.
Alvaro Morata
Mourinho needs to modify his forward line. With Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s departure, it would be very hard for him to kick start the next season without a proven goal scorer. Alvaro Morata has emerged as one of the possible entrants at Old Trafford in this summer and if Mourinho manages to pull off the deal it would be one of the biggest signings of the last few seasons.
Having worked with him at Real Madrid, Morata knows the pros and cons of Mourinho’s working style and he could be an instant fit in the Red Devils starting lineup. One of the most underrated forwards, he hasn’t been utilised properly by Los Blancos and the Spanish striker has been edging for a move.
Kieran Tierney
The Scottish international has had an excellent season with Celtic and could be an exciting addition. Mourinho had his problems with the left back area as Luke Shaw has failed to impress and he had to deploy Matteo Darmian, Daley Blind and Ashley Young on a rotational basis.
Tierney’s inclusion would add more depth for United who already have Shaw, one of the most talented full-backs in Europe. United have been scouting the player for quite a while and a move for him would only boost United’s chances in the next season.
James Rodriguez
James’ time with Real Madrid is set to expire as the Colombian international is desperate to get out of the Santiago Bernabeu as he has been rotting on the Madrid bench for most of the season.
A gem of a player, his attacking ability is something United are lacking at the moment. He would be able to add that cutting edge to the United attack which was missing last season.
