Manchester City are already making great progress in the transfer market this summer, having already notched up two of the best players in European football in the form of star midfielder Bernardo Silva from French Ligue 1 champions AS Monaco and young Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson from Portuguese Primeira Liga champions Benfica. They are not looking to stop at this and are looking to bring in some more players who will be able to make the next season a successful one for them in terms of results.
The Citizens faced a world of challenges in the last season due to problems in their defence and had to make do with a number of stopgap solutions throughout the term. However, this season, their manager Pep Guardiola is determined to bring in players who have been able to make a good impression for their respective teams in the last few seasons and can stabilise his side’s defence in domestic as well as European competitions.
Manchester City have a long history of raiding their Premier League rivals Arsenal from time to time and they have been able to procure world class players like Gael Clichy, Bacary Sagna and Samir Nasri from them. Now they are again on their way to raid the Gunners in order to get their talismanic forward Alexis Sanchez, but he is not the only one whom they are eyeing.
Reportedly, Laurent Koscielny, the mainstay of the Arsenal defence, has also been on Guardiola’s wish list to be brought into his squad for the next season. However, the North London club are in no mood to let go of their prized possession and their rock in the backline. He has also been their captain for the last season, with German centre-back Per Mertesacker out with a prolonged injury.
As per sources, there have been a number of interests flowing in for the French defender to make him a part of their squad from a number of big name clubs from all over Europe. The long list includes heavyweights like Italian Serie A club AC Milan and French Ligue 1 club Marseille, apart from Manchester City, who are looking to bag the 31-year-old in the summer.
Though there is almost no way that the North London club is looking to let go of their inspirational captain in the next transfer window, an offer in the surplus of £30 million might irk some interest for them. However, it also depends on Koscielny’s decision whether he wants to leave Arsenal or not.
