Rangers will take on Luxembourg side Progres Niederkorn in the Europa League first round qualifiers in an attempt to make their way into the Europa League. It would be very interesting to see how Pedro Caixinha chooses his team as he has made a plethora of signings since the season ended.
Rangers were held to a goalless draw against St Johnstone as the two sides renewed their rivalries in a pre-season friendly at Auchenhowie. Caixinha tested his new signings in this match and is delighted with how the team has shaped up so far. Fabio Cardoso, Ryan Jack, Dalcio and Alfredo Morelos contributed in the game but failed to register their name on the scoresheet for the Gers.
Rangers finished behind Celtic and Aberdeen and have earned a right to play in the Europa League qualifier while the Luxembourg side finished fourth in their League. Rangers will travel to Luxembourg on 4th July to have a go in the second leg.
Predicted 4-3-3 Rangers Lineup against Progres Niederkorn
Defence
Wes Foderingham has been the number one choice for the Gers and he is likely to be reinstated to the starting lineup. The English shot stopper has been pretty decent in the Gers goal last season and against an unknown team like Progres, he has to be very cautious as a second’s lapse of concentration could emerge as a big problem for him.
David Bates will pair up with new signing Fabio Cardoso at the centre of the Gers backline. The latter arrived from Vitoria Setubal this summer and this will be his first official match in a Rangers shirt.
Caixinha is likely to start James Tavernier on the right side of the defence. The 26-year-old has been very reliable for the Scottish giants and is expected to start.
Lee Wallace will be handed the responsibility to steer the game from the left-hand side. The 29-year-old was handed the armband last season and he will be looking forward to making a significant contribution to the team.
Midfield
The Portuguese gaffer is likely to go ahead with a three-man midfield. Jason Holt will be in the anchor role and will be tasked to dictate the course of play from the deep.
Ex-Aberdeen captain Ryan Jack will be deployed alongside Niko Kranjcar in the middle of the park and they will try to stretch the play across the field.
Attack
Dalcio will be deployed on the right flank and he will try to combine with Martyn Waghorn who is expected to be on the left wing. The onus will be on veteran striker Kenny Miller to latch on the mistakes of the opponent defenders.
