Despite numerous deterrents, Manchester United are just not giving up on their pursuit of Inter Milan’s creative midfielder Ivan Perisic. The Croatian international has been one of Inter’s best players last term and with a new owner at the helm, I Nerazzurri would do everything in their power to retain his services next season.
But, Jose Mourinho is adamant over his long-term target, who he believes would be the difference maker ahead of a huge season at Manchester United. The Red Devils couldn’t make any mark in the domestic campaign despite spending millions last summer, and they are bound to come stronger next season.
The attacking midfield has been a huge problem for them as Mourinho hardly has an impactful playmaker. Except for Ander Herrera, who has shown some incisive passing in the past two seasons, Pogba added little to that attribute at Old Trafford. And Perisic’s involvement could more or less make it perfect.
United are reportedly eyeing a double swoop for Inter’s Ivan Perisic and Marcelo Brozovic this summer and despite Inter’s unwillingness in letting him go, the Financial Fair Play (FFP) rule demand them to fill the £26.4 million hole existing in their club’s finances, failing which could cost them a hefty fine from UEFA.
Regardless of this, Inter Milan have rejected a £35.3 million bid from Manchester United for Perisic, and reports are to be believed they want a whopping £44.1 million for their best player. The 28-year-old has scored 11 goals and assisted 12 times in all competitions for the Serie A side, although it couldn’t help them finish high in the table.
A left-winger by nature, Perisic can also play on the other flank as well as centrally. What makes him all the more desired is his wholesome abilities in the attacking midfield. Over the years, the Croatian midfielder has developed phenomenally. He was disposed to Bundesliga side Wolfsburg in 2013 as he fell out with Jurgen Klopp owing to less first team action.
The German boss had benched him for not being a team player then. But, since then he has been one of the best in the business, doing everything that is needed of a world class playmaker. He can dribble effortlessly, has a terrific vision as he cuts inwards from the flank and takes some absolutely outlandish long shots.
After the brilliant Luka Modric, he is perhaps the best and most consistent player Croatia has at the moment. He has played 56 times for the national team, scoring 16 goals in the process and assisting the same number of times. He would definitely be a huge addition for the Manchester outfit.
