Darren Fletcher has come in as the first major signing for Stoke City for the next season, as they look to leave behind a disappointing season this term and turn things around in the Premier League. Stoke have finished at a lowly 13th position on the league table this season and look to make amends for their mistakes this term.
The Potters have shown their intent of bringing experience into the side hoping for a better result this time around by signing one of the most highly regarded campaigners into the side in the form of Scottish midfielder Darren Fletcher. The ex-Manchester United player has been roped in from his last club West Bromwich Albion and will be joining Stoke City on the 1st of July, 2017 when his contract expires at the Hawthorns.
The Scottish ace has been one of the most experienced players to have played in the Premier League. He joined West Bromwich Albion from Manchester United in 2015 and has made 97 appearances for the Baggies to date. Fletcher reportedly shunned the opportunity to sign a new deal with West Brom and joined Stoke City on a free transfer. He has signed a deal which will see him staying at the bet365 Stadium for the next two years.
Mark Hughes, the current man in charge of Stoke City is looking to revamp his squad after the club management has decided in favour of extending his stay at the bet365 Stadium despite the team’s dismal performance in the recently concluded season. The Welshman, who finished the last two consecutive seasons with the Potters at the ninth position, is looking to make the next one a good season for them and is in dire need of players who can stabilise the team.
The joining of Fletcher is pointing towards that intent of the Potters’ manager, as his presence is going to boost the team. It goes without saying that the Scottish midfielder is a hugely experienced player and that is going to come in handy for Stoke City in the next season.
Darren Fletcher has said that he is absolutely respectful to the Baggies for the way they have treated him and he is well aware of the fact that it will be a new challenge for him at the bet365 Stadium.
