Manchester United fans were treated to some great news today after reports suggested that the Red Devils are now not ready to give up on their Spanish shot-stopper David de Gea easily this summer.
The Spanish star is one of the best players in his position, if not the best in Europe at the moment and is wanted by Spanish giants Real Madrid, who have been monitoring his situation for over two years now. Los Blancos failed to land him in 2014 due to a technical snag and reports earlier suggested that Real are now ready to finalise the move early in the transfer window.
Costa Rica international Keylor Navas has been the first choice for the club for some time now but Zinedine Zidane, the current manager at Real, is convinced that he is not the right man to lead the side and is looking at De Gea as the best possible replacement.
Reports also suggested that the La Liga outfit was ready to offer £60m for his services this summer, making him the most expensive shot-stopper in the history but according to Sky Sports, United have now rejected a £60m bid from the Spanish giants for their shot stopper for a move this summer.
De Gea has been United’s best player for the last three seasons and this as well but he will surely be tempted to play for the European giants back in his hometown. He has already played in Madrid, at the Vicente Calderon and moving back to the capital is sure to appeal to him.
However, Manchester United have finally been able to secure a place in the Champions League and there is hardly anything Real Madrid can offer up and above Manchester United, to sneak him over the border.
The Red Devils have started looking for possible replacements but it is now possible that Mourinho has realised how hard it is to replace De Gea and may have spoken to the player about his interest in keeping him at the club.
There are very few players in the transfer market that can replace the Spaniard at Old Trafford and there is no apparent reason why United will want to let him go. De Gea may be tempted to reunite with his family in his hometown but that along with a financial raise might not be enough to lure the star who is now reportedly settled in Manchester.
As important as he is to Real Madrid, keeping De Gea will reduce a lot of burden on Mourinho to find his replacement and that can help United concentrate their transfer interest and war chests elsewhere.
