Following their last week Scottish Cup semi-final exit against age-old rivals Celtic, Pedro Caixinha’s Rangers FC were determined to restore their lost pride and end Celtic’s unbeaten domestic run as well as Old Firm derby dominance this afternoon at Ibrox Stadium.
Celtic are heading for a domestic treble under Brendan Rodgers as they have already secured the league, won the Scottish League Cup also are clear favourites over Aberdeen in upcoming Scottish Cup final.
Rangers, on the other hand, have failed to beat their fierce rivals in a Premiership outing for over five years, but they were expected to come up with a tough fight this time against the Hoops.
However, it proved to be the other way around as Celtic registered a thumping 1-5 away win and showed their derby supremacy.
Below are the Rangers players rated from the fixture.
Wes Foderingham: 4
Foderingham had a nightmare on Saturday afternoon between the sticks. Although he made a few smart stops, the custodian conceded five goals against age-old rivals and should have done a lot better at least on a couple of occasions.
His attempted save was weak and mistimed in Leigh Griffiths’ goal and also failed to deal with the Scottish international’s free-kick that curled into the six-yard box to be headed home by Dedryck Boyata.
James Tavernier: 4.5
Tavernier had a dreadful afternoon as he was kept on his toes by Scott Sinclair and Kieran Tierney throughout the game.
Danny Wilson: 4.5
Made a few decent clearances and crucial blocks, however, the former Liverpool defender could not resist a Celtic onslaught. Failed to hold his defence firm and partner Clint Hill.
Clint Hill: 4.5
The veteran was handed a start in place of David Bates. Threw his body to provide an excellent interception in the early seconds of the game. Looked nervy since conceding the second of the afternoon and had a difficult second half as his side went on conceding five times.
Myles Beerman: 4
Like last week’s Scottish Cup semi-final, the teenager struggled against pacy Patrick Roberts and looked rattled and rusty since conceding a spot-kick early into the game.
Josh Windass: 5
Was clumsy with his tackles in the middle of the park and struggled against Tierney and Sinclair. Tried his best to calm things down the right-hand flank, but failed to link up with Martyn Waghorn up front as the latter had a quiet outing against the Hoops.
Jason Holt: 5.5
Failed to build the game up from the midfield and was forced to concentrate on defensive duties against a ceaseless Celtic attack.
Emerson Hyndman: 4
Looked off-colour and off-paced in midfield. Was at fault in Celtic’s second goal as he lost the ball to Callum McGregor in the middle of the park that led Leigh Griffiths to finish into the back of the net. Was replaced by Joe Garner in the second half.
Martyn Waghorn: 4
Was largely unnoticed throughout as he failed to engage himself into the game. Had a chance in the second half but he sent his free header wide of the post.
Joe Dodoo: 4
Was handed a start after a few impressive cameos from the bench. But the forward failed to leave an impact and was replaced by Andrew Halliday at half time.
Kenny Miller: 7
The 37-year old veteran was the only player for the hosts who looked impressive and showed some intent against the rivals. Unleashed a classic side-footed strike to earn his side a consolation goal late into the second half.
Substitutes
Andrew Halliday: 4
Was brought in place of Joe Dodoo at half-time to build the game up from a slightly deeper role. But the midfielder failed to leave an impact.
Joe Garner: 6
Looked lively since coming on to the pitch and created a few chances for his side. Played a smart one-two with Kenny Miller and the veteran scored a wonderful goal in closing minutes of the game.
