In a major boost to Newcastle United, Rolando Aarons could be back in the first-team action by April. The winger ruptured his Anterior Cruciate Ligament in his right knee and was supposed to be out for the rest of the season.
Aarons’ return would be a massive news for Rafa Benitez whose side are preparing for a return to the Premier League next season. The Magpies have a number of important fixtures as they have to entertain Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday before the season ends.
The England U-20 international has been trying hard as he is recuperating from the injury. The teenager broke into the scene in 2014 but his career has been plagued by injuries. The Jamaican-born player has had his problems with injuries and has survived a couple of injury setbacks during his stint with the Magpies.
Aarons has been in a rehab in Italy and is expected to be fit within April. Benitez had expressed earlier that how important April could be as it would decide their future course of action. The Toons are currently leading the table and are very much in the position to get an automatic qualification to Premier League next season.
Many fans had high hopes that he would make a big impact in the Championship, particularly after his performance against Tottenham Hotspur on the final day of the previous campaign. Aarons had been one of the promising players at St James Park.
Had he been remained fit he would have been a regular starter for the Championship side. Aarons featured only 11 times last season and has suffered several hamstring problems including the last one.
However, his return would be a boon in disguise for Benitez who would have hoped for some fresh legs in the final phases of the campaign and Aarons could just provide that.
