Arsenal’s potentially prospective season seems to be petering out to another year of missed opportunities and unfulfilled expectations. After a summer which largely went with the fans first having a go at the England national team for their dismal show in the Euros and then demand big money signings at Arsenal, Wenger did address a number of concerns in the transfer market and deviating from design, made a number of big money signings. While they were nowhere near the level of business the Manchester clubs and Chelsea operate on, it was refreshing from an Arsenal point of view.
But 6 months into the season, it is pretty clear that they did not do enough. The all-too-familiar trappings are visible once again and after the embarrassing thrashing at the hands of Bayern Munich, the discontent has reared up once again. There is a wave of protest all across with a number of outlets calling for Wenger’s removal and while it is unclear what the future holds for the Frenchman and the club, one thing certain is that there will be a good number of signings in the next summer window.
Arsenal have issues regarding the long-term contracts of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez and even if the Gunners sort out things on that front, they need an upgrade in quality throughout the squad. Giroud hasn’t been able to convince Arsene Wenger or the fans despite having a good conversion rate and the likes of Walcott and Iwobi don’t seem like they will be staying around if the manager changes.
And with the attacking unit stagnating somewhat, a player like Lorenzo Insigne will be a good signing for Arsenal and as per reports there is a high chance of that happening in the near future as the Gunners have registered an interest in the player and want to advance talks with Napoli regarding their star man.
The 25-year-old Italian has drawn attention from Liverpool and Chelsea in the past and his agent has also indicated that the player is on his way out of the club, Napoli. He is more of an attack-minded midfielder, who could be devastating from the wings. His pace and stamina makes him a lethal forward on the counter and could be the ideal option for Arsenal’s link-up play.
He has now made 33 appearances across all competitions this season, bagging nine goals and assisting eight in the process. At 25, he has his best years ahead of him and Arsenal wouldn’t want to miss such an opportunity.
