If Leeds United get promoted to the Premier League next season, one player who will be hogging the limelight is none other than Chris Wood. The Kiwi striker has been in phenomenal form for the Championship side this season.
Leeds are currently in a good position to earn a playoff berth. Garry Monk’s side are currently in fifth place with 54 points and are one point adrift of fourth-placed Huddersfield Town.
Wood has netted 18 goals this season to fire Leeds to the top half of the table. Until this season, the Whites have been reeling at the bottom of the table but the way Monk has brought the best out of Wood and the rest of the squad has given the fans some renewed hope that they can finally end their long wait of playing in the top-flight after their fall from grace.
The blistering form of Wood has attracted interest from a host of Premier League clubs including West Ham. Slaven Bilic’s side are currently in a better position than before and are placed in 9th in the League table. With Diafra Sakho injured, Bilic currently only has a limited number of forwards available. Leeds slapped a £15m price tag on their star striker who also revealed that he has no intention to leave the club after recently being crowned Championship play of the month for January.
“Why would I leave here when we could be in the Premier League come May? It’s a no-brainer.
“This is where I’m doing so well, it’s perfect. And if the owner says I’m worth £15m…happy days!”
Wood joined the club from Leicester City in 2015 who were crowned the Champions last season. He came through the ranks of West Bromwich Albion and was even linked with a move back to the Hawthorns. Tony Pulis was very eager to bolster his attacking options and was considering the player.
Any club would love to have a player like Wood. He is a typical ‘fox in the box’ type of striker, or in other words, a goal poacher.
