As per a report published by Fichajes, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola wants to sign Barcelona winger Raphinha next summer. It also states that the Spanish club will demand around €100 million to let the Brazilian go.
Raphinha is breathing fire
Raphinha came into the limelight during his stint at Leeds United. As a result, Barcelona went on to sign him under Xavi in the summer of 2022. While he struggled to do convincingly enough in the first two seasons, things have changed drastically this season.
Raphinha has already netted 10 goals and provided nine assists in 14 games, including a hat-trick against Bayern Munich. He is averaging 2.9 shots, 2.9 key passes, and 1.3 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored). He was also handed over the captain’s armband at the start of the season.
The Brazilian attacker is versatile enough to be deployed in any position in the attacking line. He has good control over the ball, does enough to beat defenders, and has accurate shooting abilities. He also provides unparalleled work-rate apart from leadership qualities.
Raphinha unlikely to leave Barcelona
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is highly impressed by Raphinha’s progress. He reportedly wants to sign him next summer if he stays at Etihad Stadium.
The pursuit makes sense as the Citizens are likely to lose a couple of their star players next summer. Raphinha can be a solid choice for strengthening the unit. He has prior Premier League experience and the physicality to do well.
The 27-year-old’s high work-rate and versatility will be useful as well. However, it will be interesting to see if Manchester City will make an official move or not. If a lucrative offer arrives, Barcelona might be tempted to agree considering the financial crisis they still have. On the other hand, the Brazilian might not fancy a move as he is enjoying his best time at the Spanish club at present.
