As reported by Caught Offside, Premier League club Manchester City have joined the race to sign Sporting CP teenage sensation Geovany Quenda next summer. However, the player has a mammoth €100 million release clause.
Who is Geovany Quenda?
Geovany Quenda came through the Sporting CP Academy and had to work hard to climb up the ladders. He was integrated into the senior team at the beginning of this season. In a short time, he has already established himself as a reliable name.
Quenda has featured in 13 games this season so far and he is averaging 1.5 shots, 1.5 key passes, and 1.5 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored). His impressive displays have attracted interest from multiple clubs.
The Portuguese is being used as a right-back though he was naturally a right winger. He is known for his lightning pace, agility, and dribbling skills. However, he needs to improve his defending skills to own the position.
Geovany Quenda has a high release clause
Manchester City have their eyes on Geovany Quenda as they continue to explore options for a right-back. Kyle Walker is already 34 years old and is in the twilight of his career. Though he has shown no signs of slowing down, the club need to replace him in the long run.
Hence, the Citizens believe Quenda could be a fitting name to replace the English full-back. He could be brought in and given enough time to adapt before taking up the demanding role completely. He might also be tried in other positions to realise his fuller potential.
But a lot will depend upon how the 27-year-old performs in this season. He has a massive release clause of €100 million, which seems a bit unrealistic. Apart from Manchester City, the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea are also keeping tabs on the player.
