According to a report from The Telegraph, Despite interest from Bayern Munich, Manchester City is reportedly prepared to offer Kyle Walker a two-year contract extension. With one year remaining on his current deal, the club has no intention of selling the 33-year-old defender during this summer transfer window.

Walker’s Exceptional Form In European Competitions Last Season

Kyle Walker displayed an outstanding performance throughout the campaign at the Etihad Stadium, contributing significantly to Manchester City’s triumphant treble achievement earlier this summer. The England international made 39 appearances for the Mancunian giants across various competitions, registering one assist along the way.

The 33-year-old right-back particularly stood out in European competitions, showcasing his defensive prowess. He averaged 1.8 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, and 1.6 clearances per game in the UEFA Champions League, impressing with his ability to win back possession. Walker’s proficiency in distributing the ball from the back was also notable, as demonstrated by his impressive pass completion rate of 83.3% in European football, according to statistics from Whoscored.

Walker’s remarkable performances in Europe undoubtedly played a vital role in Manchester City’s success and further solidified his reputation as a key contributor to their quest for glory.

Was Pep Guardiola’s Decision To Retain Him At The Etihad Stadium A Wise Move For Manchester City?

Walker demonstrates strong tackling abilities, effectively reclaiming possession for his team within his own half. His speed enables him to make crucial recovery runs at the back, while his passing accuracy adds to his overall effectiveness.

The English talent exhibits a willingness to clear the ball when necessary and has the ability to create promising opportunities for his teammates in the opponent’s half. While primarily operating as a right-back, Walker is versatile enough to fulfil roles as a right-sided wide player or even a central defender if his manager instructs him.

Given his skill set and contributions, Walker remains a valued Pep Guardiola match-day squad member, highlighting his continued importance within the team. Even at 33, Walker could still make an impact while rotating in the squad and help develop youngsters in the same position acting as an excellent understudy. Hence, Guardiola has done well to consider tying him down at the Etihad for two more years.
